Rivers United Grind Out Away Win as Akwa United, Bayelsa United Secure Crucial Victories
Rivers United kept their title charge alive with a determined 2-1 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday.
Taofeek Otaniyi struck just two minutes into the second half to put Rivers United ahead, before Samson Obi doubled their lead in the 61st minute. Risilanu Ismail netted a late consolation for El-Kanemi in stoppage time, but the visitors held firm to claim their third away win of the season.
In Uyo, Akwa United boosted their survival hopes with a vital 2-0 win over Shooting Stars. Ebedebiri Endurance broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, and Uche Sabastine ensured all three points with a second goal seven minutes later.
At the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw by Nasarawa United. Auwalu Malam fired the hosts ahead in the 18th minute, but Idris Ajiya’s 68th-minute strike earned Nasarawa a hard-fought point.
Elsewhere, Sunday Megwo was the hero for Abia Warriors, scoring the only goal in their 1-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in Umuahia.
Bayelsa United also claimed maximum points, edging Lobi Stars 1-0 courtesy of Magbisa Wisdom’s 55th-minute winner.
